What is stress in Engineering? Types of Stresses ?

What is Stress ?

Stress :-  Stress is an internal force or pressure or energy that resist to the deformation when a load is acting on it .

Defination : - Stress is defined as When  the Force that are applied on the surface of the body ,  with the respect to the cross sectional area of the surface, that is called Stress. It is denoted by sigma '𝜎' .
the S.I unit of Stress is N/mmᒾ.

The force per unit area is called Stress .
The Load is acting per unit cross sectional area , is also called Stress.

Stress Formula:-

                        Stress = Force / Area
                                𝞂 = F / A
here is               SI unit of Force = Newton (N)
                          SI unit of Area = mmᒾ
                        SI unit of Stress = N/mmᒾ
Types of Stresses : -

1. Tensile Stress
2. Compressive Stress
3. Shear Stress
